Age
Hearing loss is the natural phenomenon when people become
aged. People’s ability to hear starts worsening from 30s and 40s and when they
reach our 80s, most of them suffer from hearing loss.
Noise
We may experience sounds of traffic, TV, radios etc in our
day to day lives. But all these are at a safe level not damaging the hearing.
They are under 85 decibles. When the sound is more than this level is causes
noise and that hampers our hearing. Noisy motors, loud music at night clubs,
discos and night clubs cause hearing problem in the future. The increasing use
of portable MP3 players is even causing hearing damages. These devices can
deliver high sound levels and so the user in order to enjoy music to the utmost
level exposes their ears to excessively high dB levels.
Smoking
Recent studies have shown that if you quit smoking or reduce
it and avoid passive exposure to smoking, you may reduce the risk of hearing
loss. Presently, smokers have more than fifteen percent of hearing loss than
non-smokers. However, it has also been found that passive smoking has increased
the likelihood of hearing loss by twenty-eight percent.
Other hearing loss causes
include:
·
too much of ear wax
·
build-up of fluid in ear
·
an infection in the ear
·
an inflammation of brain
·
stroke where the supply of blood to brain is interrupted
·
meningitis
Hearing loss can be temporary or permanent. For example, if
it’s because of too much of ear wax that you are unable to hear properly, you
can ask an ENT specialist to treat it and get it removed as soon as possible.
But if it is because of exposure to loud noise, then hearing aids may only be
the solution. But before buying one for your need, consult one of the reputed audiologists in Bulleen, let him or her
examine you and conduct a hearing test. Your audiologist will be the best
person to suggest you what to do in case of hearing loss.
